Description

Pencil on paper. 9"x12". 2013.

True story: I use these shells to hold my watercolours when I paint. The broken spiral shells work really well for brush holders, too. ;)

My own drawing skills are nothing to brag about, and I find fabric folds especially difficult to draw. This explains why I'm always so very impressed when other people are able to do it well. This work is no exception. The folds and flow of the fabric looks very natural, very realistic, and provides a nice "frame" of sorts for the rest of the objects.

This realisme also shows in the rest of the work. You clearly have an eye for details. Judging from this single drawing I get the impression that you really look at what you draw, but more than that, I also see your passion for your craft. Still life drawings and paintings can easily become boring, even if they look very realistic. It takes an artist with love for their work to make something like that come to life, and that's what you've done. Nothing at all is happening in the drawing, yet I don't get bored for as much as a second because to me, the whole thing looks alive with your dedication and care.

Next, I really admire the shading. It's what gives the work depth and realism. but who am I telling that? It's what shading is for xD But yeah, your skill at shading adds a lot to the work.

Sadly, near te edges the work looks just a little but blurry. I think it's because of the scan and it doesn't have much of an impact on the viewing experience, but it's a little bit of a shame.

As for skill and execution, I can find no faults. You did an excellent job on this.
